Summer, Cocktails and Cupcakes

images

I’m writing this from a beach in Egypt as I enjoy a well earned break from the kitchen and cakes. However I havent been able to escape work long as new ideas fill my head while I take in sunshine. When I get back in the kitchen I am looking forward to creating some delicious cocktail inspired cupcakes including Pina Colada and Strawberry Daquri. Keep your eye out on Twitter at www.twitter.com/thevintagebb for the launch in July to celebrate all things sunshine and summer.

The Bluebell Woods

It’s that time again. The bluebells are out and the woodland floors are covered in a carpet of beautiful blue. Over the bank holiday weekend we took our annual trip to Coton Manor, Northamptonshire, to enjoy the bluebells in all their glory. Around this time 7 years ago, my grandfather passed away from cancer. He would always be singing and one of his favourites was his own creation, ‘bluebells are bluebells and bluebells are blue’. It is almost as if the bluebells come out for their two weeks in honour of his memory. Walking around the woods feels magical. There is an air of fairy tale and I imagine the pixies coming out to play at night time.

My grandfather inspired The Vintage Bluebell Bakery. Every time we would go to visit him in Nottingham he would greet us with a massive hug and ask where his scones were. He was a fan of my baking and always encouraged me to pursue my dreams.

‘Bluebells are bluebells and bluebells are blue’

We recently had the pleasure of working with Tara Florence Photography to provide a cake for one of their bridal photo shoots, which took place among a beautiful bluebell woods just outside of Northampton. We look forward to sharing the finished photos with you shortly.

The Vintage Wedding Gala 2015

In March 2015 we had the pleasure of attending the Vintage Wedding Gala for the second time. Held at the fantastic Guildhall, Northampton, we met many brides and grooms to be looking for inspiration for their big day. It was also great to meet many local businesses from in and around Northampton.

If you were at the event and spoke to us or saw our cakes we would love to hear your feedback either by email at thevintagebluebell@hotmail.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thevintagebluebellbakery

Tara Florence Smith did a great job as always pulling the event together, this time complete with bridal catwalk and there was a fantastic turnout throughout the day. For more information about the Vintage Wedding Gala, check out their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/vtgweddinggala

We’ll leave you with some photos of our cakes from the day. If you are looking for a wedding quote, please contact us at thevintagebluebell@hotmail.com. We would love to hear from you.

Race for Life

image
Over this coming summer thousands of women, all over the country, will be taking part in Race for Life, raising money for Cancer Research UK. I, as crazy at it seems, will be one of those women.

These events are vital in funding Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.

My grandfather died after a long and hard fight against cancer. My mum has survived a tough year of operation after operation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2013. She has just been given the all clear. I am running the Race for Life to celebrate their journeys and to help further the work of Cancer Research UK because no-one deserves to have cancer.

Please take the time to check out my Just Giving page and if you are in Abington Park, Northampton on the 7 June come and say hello.

New Year, New Things

image

The decorations have been put away for another year and it is no longer acceptable to eat mince pies and chocolate for breakfast. We at The Vintage Bluebell Bakery hope that you had a fantastic Christmas and wish you all a very happy New Year.

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions this year? And are they still unbroken?

Our resolution for 2015 is to learn new things and so we have been working hard in the kitchen learning to make French macarons (NOT macaroons!) and homemade marshmallows.

Our tasters have gone down a treat with family and friends, who especially liked the Blackberry & Lemon macarons and our raspberry marshmallows.

Like everything, practise makes perfect and we are still working away in the kitchen to produce some new bakes.

We look forward to sharing them with you in the near future.

Cake Smashing

Parents are increasingly getting their little toddlers to smash up a frosted celebration cake whilst being photographed to celebrate their 1st birthday. The results are adorable, cake covered babies! We were recently asked to bake a giant flowerpot cupcake for little Ava’s cake smash and here is the result. Unfortunately little Ava refused to smash the cake as she thought it was too pretty but Hannah Gibbons Photography captured the moment beautifully. If you are interested in a cake for a smash photo shoot for your little one, get in touch at www.thevintagebluebellbakery.co.uk
